Just Be

One of the things that I’ve realized more fully is the busy state of Americans. Anytime that I go overseas I struggle greatly upon returning because our culture is not my preference. Busyness, programs, sports, cellphones, money and a lot more all dictate our time. I promised myself that I would not succumb to it again.

But here I am strategically trying to figure out how to change.

What I do in and of itself is not bad but longterm it definitely takes a toll. I long for the days of solitude where I sent letters in the mail and I knew my neighbors well. A phone would be for emergencies or to catch up with a friend. As much as I would love cellphones not to consume people’s lives, here I am writing my blog on one (there is a balance to everything I suppose). Busy has become a badge of honor and I am over here ripping it off yet failing to overcome it.

There is a song that Kim Walker Smith sings called, “Just Be”. It has become a soothing way to start my day for the past week and a half. All I want is Jesus. Everything is right, good and safe with him. In his presence everything either makes sense or there is a reassurance that someday I will understand.

No matter what load I carry, Jesus is all I need. He is all I want. When the load is heavy and I feel like it will overtake me (I see a flat version of me under the boulder even though I know that image is not a true one) I take a moment to let Jesus come and fill me again with his vision and hope.

Click the link below to listen to the song:

“Everything else can wait

I’ve come to seek Your face

So everything else can wait

I’m here for You

I want to

Just be, here at Your feet

Just be, here on my knees

Here in Your presence I am complete

Jesus, you’re all that I need.”

He is more than enough. When we do not understand what is going on or when we cannot see in front of us, He is all that we need.

Take time to slow down.

Put your phone down. Embrace the one’s you love more than the time spent with your phone in your hands or your eyes looking at a screen.

Write a letter and send it in the mail. Bake a meal as a family rather than getting fast food. At your meal sit down and talk about your day. Keep phones, TV’s, and devices turned off in order for connection to occur and love to grow. Look your children and spouse in the eyes as you talk and laugh. Make family your first priority.

Busy is not a badge of honor but loving Jesus and loving others well, is.

Slow down long enough to be filled with new breathe.

Lord, help us.

“Everything else can wait”

Leaning In

Will you lean in?

Every Sunday my favorite thing to do is pray with kids. During prayer I place my hand on their heads. If a child is new I will always ask permission first before doing this.

On one particular Sunday morning as I laid my hand on one child’s head they relaxed and leaned in. I went around the classroom and one child after the other leaned in. The response of leaning in is not a new response but having as many children do so like they did, was.

This action of leaning in conveys trust. In the context of the heart it often can signify surrender and the action to receive. For others they simply hunger for more of God.

As I witnessed these children do this it dawned on me how important it is for us to lean in. When we lean in we are expecting more. We can expect more because we know that God wants to give more.

How many times have we ignored God? How many times have we rushed prayer or decided that enough time was spent with him?

Greater treasure awaits us in the quiet moments of waiting, listening and leaning in.

God is a good God. He always wants to give us more. He loves to give good gifts.

I have to wonder what have we missed out on for being too busy or rushing our time?

What is even more extraordinary to me with children is they know and will lean in no matter what is going on. They will lean in when they are happy. They will lean in when they are sad or hurt.

How often do we stop leaning in when things are good and we don’t feel the need for God? Or maybe it is the opposite and instead of leaning in when things get difficult, we blame Him instead?

Whatever season we are in we become the inconsistent ones. God remains faithful. He is always ready to help and to bless us if we are willing to receive from Him in those still and quiet moments.

Lean in.

Focus On What Is

What are you waiting for?

I am right here.

While you complain about your life I am right here.

I am blessing your family because I love your family. I am blessing your body because I love you. I am blessing your job because I want you to succeed. Yes, I am even blessing what is to come because your future matters to me too.

Stop focusing on what is not. Focus on what is. I am I am. Nothing is hidden from me. Your enemies are haughty and arrogant. Do not worry about them for I have prepared a great feast of victory for you. They will see your feast and wonder at the great joy you have.

But you must focus on what is, not on what is not. Get out of the griping habit. Get out of the rut of the enemy. Bitterness grabs hold of your feet there and will not let you go until you choose repentance, forgiveness and joy. What I desire for you is so much greater than you can imagine.

My heart is drawn to you. I only want your good. I want to see you succeed. I am your biggest fan. My voice is the loudest cheering you on. I am for you.

What are you waiting for?

I am right here.

Go Time

It is “Go time!”

The phrase is on a new coffee cup that a dear friend gave to me. It represents dreams coming to pass, to be expectant of them occurring. I am ready.

It is “Go time!” for many of you too. There is a stirring happening in many of your hearts to move forward with those dreams of yours. Are you waiting for permission from man? If you are you may be waiting for many more years to come. This life is to be lived for God not for man.

Go for it!

Are you waiting for the right timing? I understand that there is often a process to things and timing plays a big factor but for many of you the timing is now. It has been for far too long in some instances. Break free from fear.

It is “Go time!”

The Unseen

Recently I was struck with a grand reality that I have realized before but it finally burried itself deep into my heart:

God takes care of you when you sleep. While you sleep He is taking care of things unseen.

Anything that you face He has you completely covered. We do not need to strive for control. We do not need to have all the solutions, finances or best plan because God already does.

This does not mean that we get to be lazy. Absolutely not. What it does mean is that as we submit ourselves to Him and allow Him to guide us, we can find rest amidst the battle.

At a service the other night the word, “refreshment” was spoken over me. Simply put, just like a soldier needs to come back to camp for food and water and rest, I would receive the same spiritual refreshment. It resonated with my soul because I had just asked the Lord to help me understand how to do this.

In a flash all these dots seemed to connect more and the truth about God became deeper rooted within me. He never tires. He never tarries. His timing is flawless. He knows what He is doing. Because He is good, He is trustworthy. Because He is love, He is faithful. Because He loves you, He will help you and make a way for you.

There are no buts, what ifs, maybes, or rugs waiting to be ripped from beneath you. God is not the culprit of either your bad choices or the bad choices from others. He is always the one to help you back up, to cry with you or to fiercely roar in the face of your enemy.

He is mighty!

He does not like it when others mess with His own.

There is justice for you.

He stands in front and behind to declare that you are His.

Don’t Be Boring

I have never wanted to live a boring life.

Boring is over-rated. Boring does not leave a legacy that births revivals and love. Boring changes nothing. Boring leaves stagnant waste and leaves people questioning purpose rather than living abundantly in love.

I would rather live my life having given every breath to speak words of truth & love.

I would rather die knowing I chose an adventurous life with Jesus and gave my all to him. Are dead people rising from the dead? Are you seeing the light return in the eyes of those you spend time with even in the line in the grocery store?

When impossible becomes normal and the possible becomes mundane that is when you know you are truly living. It is exhilarating.

Don’t be boring.

Be different.

Choose the Jesus adventure & you will realize that in surrender you gain an epic life.

Cleanse

Cleanse.
There seems to be a health craze lately about cleanses for our bodies. I am not discounting the health benefits from a cleanse. It made me think more about our hearts. Our hearts need a cleanse more than our bodies. After all in the end that is what matters the most.

I’m tired of olive branches being extended out only for them to be cut off. I’m tired of verbal abuse, guilt trips, manipulation and blame cast upon the innocent. I’m fed up with toxic words spoken over those I love, and over our nation. Lies. All these lies will crumble revealing the truth of hearts involved.

When all is exposed what will your heart reveal? Will there be toxic ooze? Will vile & rotting flesh reveal a broken heart that chose to blame cast and tear down others? Or will your heart reveal purity, love, gentleness, joy, and beauty?

Everyone has a choice.

“But Kara you don’t know how hard my life has been!”

Hog wash! I’ve been through hell but my God saved me and has continued to turn the ashes into something incredibly beautiful. I’ve experienced my deepest sorrows and deepest pains being touched by my healer. His love and his joy have set me free from not only the fires of hell but he has touched the scars from the battle on my way back up.

He is not done with me yet.

He certainly has not forgotten about you nor is he finished with you. He took your pain to the grave after dying on the cross so that you wouldn’t have to carry it. Just as he rose you have a choice to choose the same destiny.

A heart cleanse. Get rid of toxic thinking, toxic words & toxic relationships.

Stop casting blame.

Repent.

Forgive.

Choose love.

Choose truth.

Choose joy.

Working For It!

I have to be honest for a moment. There are so many things that I want to write about but I am hesitant to because there are some things better kept quiet for this season. Eventually there will be a time when I can write about all sorts of triumphs & victories after mighty battles. If you sense that I am being vague, it is to honor certain people I hold dear as well as protect those that are innocent. Our words can cause so much pain even if the truth is being told. I want to write words that speak life, and encourage readers in times of great struggles yet address great difficulties at the right time.

In church today I realized how much my mind is changing. Getting rid of toxic thoughts and surrounding myself with non-toxic people have led me to a place of such joy & freedom. I still have a lot of work to do but I can honestly say that I have noticed a change in my life. Praise is on my lips even amidst trials. Truth is in the front of my mind rather than lies. Because I know whose I am and He is good & mighty & powerfully loving, not wanting any sin to taint me, or someone to mess with me, I am able to rest. No matter what happens I rest without fear of tomorrow.

Life can be hard but my joy does not depend on my circumstances. My joy comes from the One that never changes. He is always faithful, is always good & never gives up on me. He is my constant one. He is the only one I need to look to for my worth. He is always there when I am alone. He understands every tear & speaks life into my identity so that I can slay the enemy once my feet hit the ground every morning.

Grace is extended during imperfect moments when my emotions are on overload & pain is expressed outwardly. Every time I invite him into the mess, healing occurs.  A new level of confidence grows and new levels of joy flood my soul after failure or heartache is turned to victory.

Surrender and healing is worth the hard work. Just like others work hard for that hot body, I am working on my soul.

My Response

My prayers shake the atmosphere.

Beauty rises from the ashes.

Dry bones come to life.

In life and death, in joy and sorrow, in acceptance and rejection I still need you God.

Tears may fall but I know that you love me.

You are good.

You are love.

You are joy.

I will live for you all of my days.

Weapon Against the Enemy

Do you know who you are? Do you understand your purpose?

My entire life has been filled with admiration for super heroes. I enjoyed watching epic fight scenes, characters defying impossible odds, and fighting from a deep sense of purpose. They knew who they were after conquering their own struggles. They loved others. From the beginning they were destined to be the rare, unique person called to greatness. Possessors of power & an authority I often felt I lacked in my own life they somehow performed the impossible.

I was born with a calling on my life. All my life the enemy has done his due diligence to lie, cheat, steal & thwart this destiny of mine. Cheap shots have been taken. For a little while I even believed the lies that he intended me to believe in order to create in me an identity other than the one God intended. I have had enough of this!

When one realizes that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in & through us it is hard to ever return to sugarcoated, wimpy Jesus Christian living. Being comfortable is a lie. Sitting back is intended for those that do not understand who they are. When one that is unified with Christ & filled with Holy Spirit, a fire blazes with love for all people headed to hell to live free, victorious & joy filled lives!

Because of this I do kingdom work battle. I am strong. I know who I am & to whom I belong.

Fearless.

Courageous.

I am a weapon against the enemy!
